Additional Information
Description:
Colors and patterns inspired by Piet Mondrian, a 20th century abstract artist, are used to create deceptively simple but graphically powerful polymer clay cane. Yet, the impact of this cane is dramatically altered by scale. The objective will be to combine the various canes with supporting solids and stripes to create veneers that will be used as a focal piece for a fun, lightweight lariat that is finished with a few coordinating accessory beads.
Students will Learn:
Introduction to caning, building a Mondrian-inspired cane, and reduction of square canes will be the first half of the class along with considering the effects of scale. The second half of the class explores the use of veneers that combine canes for a pleasant design. Students will also create a variety of accessory beads that will add the finishing touch for the buna cord lariat.
